Featured Breakout Session: “Learning Progressions and Quick Progress Checks”
Learning progressions are the smaller, sequenced “building blocks” of instruction necessary for students to understand the larger learning intentions of a unit of study. Quick progress checks, occurring throughout a unit of study right after learning progressions, are formative checks of student understanding.
In this session, you will learn how to determine the instructional pathway to the unit learning intention by:
- Breaking the learning intention into learning progressions—the skills and concepts that progressively lead to the learning intention
- Selecting one learning progression and writing the related lesson-specific success criteria.
- Creating quick, informal checks for student understanding aligned to the learning progression to inform next instructional steps.
